Pear Shaped Puffball If you think the Giant Puffball is delicious you need to introduce yourself to the Pear Shaped Puffball. This miniature variety is highly rated by chefs for it meaty texture and sweet taste. They form in clusters and sometimes literally cover hardwood stumps. The air is scented with ripe pears and apples that hang well within reach of hungry travelers. It’s quite a bonus to a journey that eventually brings us to darkened wood, home to highly sought after fungi such as Lactarius Deliciosus, Summer Oysters, Giant Puffballs, Russulas and more. To get an idea of our treks you can read a recent article by writer Keph Senett that appeared in Harrowsmith.
