Description

Veterinary Purchasing Co. Ltd. (VP) located in St. Marys, Ontario, is the largest Veterinary Supplier in Ontario with annual sales of over $380 million and is currently looking to add a dynamic individual within our Finance department for the full time position of:

Financial Controller

Reporting to the CFO, this individual will be responsible for analyzing and establishing accounting programs.  You must have advanced MS Excel skills, with a focus on high quality and delivery of results.  Strong attention to detail with service first mentality.  Proactive solutions oriented problem solving skills, with strong business acumen. 

Responsibilities include…

Supervising, coaching and mentoring finance and administrative staff members
Accounts Payable – approve expenditures, maximize discounts taken, process EFT payments
Accounts Receivable – review of daily deposits and aging reports, as well as assist with collection of outstanding accounts
Pricing – supervise pricing clerk while ensuring standard cost is accurate and analyze sales margin by product classification
Assist with month end closing by approving and entering journal entries
Budgeting and forecasting
General ledger account reconciliations
Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of financial information
Prepare monthly financial statements for review and approval by CFO
Assist with year-end audit by preparing working papers for external auditors
Prepare government filings and remittances / Annual reconciliations of EHT and WSIB
Monthly bank reconciliation of four accounts – daily monitoring of account balances.    Manage foreign exchange transactions
With input from the CFO, development and implementation of internal controls with respect to financial policies, processes and procedures.
Co-ordination of government audits
Provide advice and guidance on accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis and reporting
Other related duties as required or assigned

The successful Candidate should have…

University degree in Business/Accounting, with advanced degree or professional accounting designation preferred
Minimum five years accounting experience which includes some supervision
Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role
Knowledge of ERP computer systems an asset
Ability to adapt and learn new software
Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
Financial analysis, budgeting and some strategic planning experience
